Angel Project 2017 for Seo In Guk Highlights

Since we do this every year, I think I've ran out of creative titles for our Angel Projects. 😅

But as mentioned during a previous post, just because Seo In Guk is in a hiatus doesn't mean that support projects for him would be in a hiatus too. We've been doing the Angel Project under In Guk's name every year since the SIG Angels Fan Club was born, and despite In Guk's absence in the industry since March, we were still able to complete this project because of all the amazing angels who continue to love and support him all the way. 😊

As always, our Christmas Projects target brave little warriors who battle it out against cancer at the Philippine Children's Medical Center. Through the help of generous people, we were again able to support cancer patients kids this year.

Just like what we always do, vouchers were given away which the beneficiaries could exchange for cash to help them with their medical expenses and other medical needs, such as a bag of blood that might be needed for transfusion.

Grocery packs were given away too, along with toys, books and coloring materials that could help ease the sadness and anxiety that our brave little warriors might be experiencing while taking their time to recover in the hospital.

The photo op for this year was conducted in the beginning of the charity proper, in contrast to what we usually do for the past two years. I was late for the party because I had to attend to something personal the same day Angel Project 2017 was held so I wasn't able to be a part of the official group pictures for the photobook, but good thing there were still other awesome shots afterwards that I was able to be in.

And credits to our master cropper for having me inserted into the admin's group photo despite my absence at the first photo op. 😁

Fangirling doesn't stop here though, as an after party also happened as soon as the charity proper was wrapped up. There were games, giveaways and a little chit chat, and everyone had fun eating together and spending the afternoon gushing over Seo In Guk.

Here's to more lovely moments like this with fellow angels in the future. Cheers! Merry Christmas! ❤️

Sharing the Gift of Love this Christmas: Angel Project 2016

It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.

So goes a line by Mother Theresa. In this world we live in, we are often bound by financial means. But while at it, it's important to remember that it is mot just the gift but the thought and love that counts. We give not just because we have more, but because it is what our entire heart wants. We give because it is love that counts.

Thus, in this season of giving, SIG Angels has launched Angel Project 2016: an annual Christmas project by Seo In Guk's fans around the globe dedicated to him and all those who are in need, be it cancer patient kids or the like.

For 2016, SIG Angels initially planned to conduct a charity event either in a place that houses abandoned kids or the Philippine Children's Medical Center for cancer patient kids. Due to budget constraints we went with the latter, but upped the beneficiaries to 30 cancer patient kids compared to last year's 20.

Same as last year, the angels agreed to meet somewhere at Eton Centris to allow ample time to get to know each other, headed by Angel admin Jaja. Angel admins Kate and Joan, on the other hand, proceeded directly to the hospital as they had luggages they had to attend to and it would be quite a hassle to travel here and there.

Upon arriving at the hospital, shirts to be worn throughout the event were then distributed, followed by a short briefing of what to do and what to bring. There were quite a few new faces so in order to make everyone feel a little more comfortable, each were asked to share how they came to know about In Guk and what their favorites are about him.

As soon as everything was set, the angels were then deployed to their ward assignments. Same as last year, there were all kinds of patients in each ward: ranging from young ones to a few who were a little above young. To put a smile on their faces, loot bags were given for the kids which include toys, coloring books, story books, and a few snacks. We've heard that milk was good for them so we also handed Bingrae's famous flavored milk with a cute little Seo In Guk sticker on it.

Aside from the goodies the parents were given vouchers as well, which they'd then surrender in exchange of money they could use for blood transfusion or medical bills. Each voucher costs P1500, funds of which were from the donations we were able to collect from generous angels all over the globe.

Since there were still a few goodies left, we visited other wards as well and gave away the excess gifts that we have. The little warriors were super happy, and we were happy too.

After the charity proper comes the highlight for the attendees: the much awaited photo op for the fandom. Despite being heartbroken from what we have seen the previous hour, angels happily posed before the project tarpaulin. We stood, we sat, and even laid on the floor beside In Guk.

And of course, a successful project calls for a celebration... so there we went again, at our favorite place in Timog, for a very late lunch and further chit chat about our number one namja. And yes, freebiees!!! Thanks a bunch Ate Kate!

Indeed, Christmas is a time of joy. It is a time of giving, sharing and showing love to one another. The smile that graced our little warriors' faces through Angel Project 2016 is a beautiful reminder of that: a reminder for us to always choose to give, share and love... no matter what life throws at us.

That being said, thank you very much for all the support, our lovely angels. 'Til our next project!

Merry Christmas!

Path to Victory: Miss Universe 2015

Image via Asia News Network.

42 years in the making and now the crown is finally ours, again.

All it took was one Pia Wurtzbach to once again top the Miss Universe pageant. Pia Wurtzbach, a true queen who served as an embodiment of Filipina beauty—fierce, persistent, and confidently beautiful with a heart.

Yet the road to Miss Universe was never an easy one for Pia. It took her three consecutive attempts to get the Miss Universe Philippines title at the Binibining Pilipinas competition, and when she won, she had to sacrifice a lot of things to get to where she is now. She had to diet, give up foods that she love, and even spend a little less time with family and friends.

For the past three years that she has tried, people laughed at her saying that she was trying too hard. Yet she didn’t bother and just shrugged the comments off. Yes she may have been trying too hard, but in her mind she kept trying her hardest simply because winning Miss Universe was what she really wanted. And look where that took her.

Sure Pia may have first had it rough and patchy, but her win was definitely worth all of those. Her win served as an inspiration for all of us to always go after what we want because if we don’t, we’ll never have it. Moreover, it taught us to not let anyone tell us we aren’t capable of our dreams.

The Miss Universe pageant may have long been over now, but it left a very inspiring lesson that will forever stay not just with Pia, but everyone else as well. Indeed it served as a timely reminder for us to never, ever give up—especially with our dreams.

As Dex Galban (on facebook) puts it, “you may have been repeatedly heartbroken, delayed academically, denied a job or lost confidence in yourself. Still, keep fighting the good fight. Because when you do, you just won't be back. You'll be Wurtzbach.”

Beat that!

Lighting a Candle of Hope this Christmas: Angel Project 2015

There are two ways of spreading light: to be a candle or the mirror that reflects it.

So goes a quote by Edith Wharton. The light of hope, in one way or another, is a remarkable source of strength that people can rely on in times of darkness. This Christmas, as a source of light to children in their darkest hours due to cancer, SIG Angels chose to be a candle: one that does not only spread light but also keeps our little warriors warm and secure.

Angel Project 2015 is a collaborative effort of Seo In Guk's fans around the globe, with the intent of helping cancer patient kids at the Philippine Children's Medical Center through medical sponsorship. Funds for the project were taken from donations given by various angel sponsors around the globe, and went to either covering a fraction of their bill or a blood bag that the patients would need for transfusion.

Prior to the project proper, the angels agreed to meet somewhere at Eton Centris to allow ample time for them to get to know each other and change their clothes to the shirt that was supposed to be worn for the said event. As soon as all of the members were complete, a van was hired to proceed to the place of charity.

Although we rented a van with a capacity of 18 people (we were only 10), the ride was a bit pricey for P300 considering the distance from Centris to PCMC. Upon arrival, Ate Kate and Ate Fran who went ahead because of the things they had to bring greeted us all with a bright and warm smile. Ate Kate, the person behind this charity event, distributed face masks and notebooks to the group and briefed us about what we should do throughout our stay.

There were all kinds of patients in each ward, ranging from young ones to a few who were a little above young. They all had stories to tell, and it was heartbreaking to know that at such a young age they had to go through this kind of battle and give up the happiness a child is supposed to have by playing with friends and studying at school.

To help ease the sadness that these kids were feeling, we distributed a few gifts for them such as toys, coloring books, story books and the like. It was gratifying to see how happy they were with what we have given them. After the giving of gifts, the parents were then asked to meet the group outside for the vouchers they'd surrender in exchange of money they could use for blood transfusion or medical bills.

At the end of the charity proper some got teary eyed but all were happy and fulfilled for being able to do a good deed to someone else, in behalf of Seo In Guk on top of that. As a final activity before leaving PCMC, a photo op was conducted where the group posed before the fandom's tarpaulin. We stood, we sat, and even laid on the floor beside him. We didn't mind what people would probably think because we were happy. We were happy, and we were one.

And as no successful project ends without a celebration, after the charity event the group gathered somewhere in Timog for a simple dinner and further chit chat about our namja.

It was the first ever charity event I was able to attend, and it was amazing. The experience was super, and I cannot wait to be a part of something like this again. 'Til our next project!

Merry Christmas, angels!

Okay? Okay.

Okay—a four letter word that often serves as the easiest answer to almost anything. It is a word said by most of us when faced by a situation that entails an immediate response, a word that sounds way better than a hollow yes or a harsh no. Mr. Merriam and Webster defines it as something fairly good; while Mr. Oxford defines it as something that's tolerable.

Simply put, okay is not a neutral word. In actuality it is a term of acceptance, a term for settling over something that may not be the worst, but is certainly not the best either. In short, it is a term used to agree over something that's just good enough.

"Wala na, tinapos ko na."

He's gone. It's ended. He's not coming back. Was him ending everything like... "hey-we're-just-cooling-it-off-but-i'll-tell-everybody-else-i've-already-ended-it" something I should accept as "just good enough"? Because that. hurt. Telling me we should prove ourselves to one another, that we should better ourselves, make friends, be friends, and then afterwards we could probably start again all while telling everybody else we're done, hurt. A lot. Especially that he was a 'first' love...

For the past few days after that cold December night, after a few days of crying and refusing to think any longer, I thought I was already fine. It's over. No matter how much I run away from it, it's still something that I eventually have to deal with, so I've been honestly trying my hardest to be okay with it... but seeing him around knowing that he seems more than okay right now—having pictures with friends/some other girls he know, talking and laughing with everybody else as if nothing has happened—and here I am, just okay, continues to pain me... like being stabbed right here over and over and over again. He's gone, I'm haunted, and he is just fine... Did I make it that easy to walk right in and out of my life?

Tauriel: "If this is love, I do not want it. Take it from me. Please. Why does it hurt so much?" —The Hobbit; Battle of the Five Armies

So that's how it feels like, falling in love for the very first time...

But yeah, I guess there may be more to this than just... this. They say it's okay not to be okay at times, so in the meantime, I hope and pray for the courage to accept my being un-okay at the moment, and tell myself that it's okay if I'm alone. It's okay if I'm lonely and vulnerable. It's okay if I'm easily hurt, and it's okay if I feel so so much. It's okay if I'm sad, as long as I remind myself that it's not permanent.

It's not permanent for this state too, shall pass. As the old saying goes, it always does. So I'm betting it's okay too if I hate the hurt now because I know that eventually, I'll forget all about it later... and when that time comes, I'm going to remind myself that tomorrow, it sure is gonna be more than okay.

Okay? Okay.
