Path to Victory: Miss Universe 2015

42 years in the making and now the crown is finally ours, again.

All it took was one Pia Wurtzbach to once again top the Miss Universe pageant. Pia Wurtzbach, a true queen who served as an embodiment of Filipina beauty—fierce, persistent, and confidently beautiful with a heart.

Yet the road to Miss Universe was never an easy one for Pia. It took her three consecutive attempts to get the Miss Universe Philippines title at the Binibining Pilipinas competition, and when she won, she had to sacrifice a lot of things to get to where she is now. She had to diet, give up foods that she love, and even spend a little less time with family and friends.

For the past three years that she has tried, people laughed at her saying that she was trying too hard. Yet she didn’t bother and just shrugged the comments off. Yes she may have been trying too hard, but in her mind she kept trying her hardest simply because winning Miss Universe was what she really wanted. And look where that took her.

Sure Pia may have first had it rough and patchy, but her win was definitely worth all of those. Her win served as an inspiration for all of us to always go after what we want because if we don’t, we’ll never have it. Moreover, it taught us to not let anyone tell us we aren’t capable of our dreams.

The Miss Universe pageant may have long been over now, but it left a very inspiring lesson that will forever stay not just with Pia, but everyone else as well. Indeed it served as a timely reminder for us to never, ever give up—especially with our dreams.

As Dex Galban (on facebook) puts it, “you may have been repeatedly heartbroken, delayed academically, denied a job or lost confidence in yourself. Still, keep fighting the good fight. Because when you do, you just won't be back. You'll be Wurtzbach.”

Beat that!
