Dream Come True: The 35th Metro Manila Young Writers Conference and Contests

We may have had very few photos... but it's real! We made it to the regionals!

Monique with Alaiza for the October 11 contest: News Writing and Editorial Cartooning.
Patricia for the October 18 contest: Photojournalism.

DIVISION TRAINING
Prior to the contest, a week long training (includes a holiday training dated October 6) was done where pupils were further honed of the skills they already have and those they still need for the contest. Various trainers, including teacher-advisers who were already an expert in their respective fields, assisted the kids with their work.

A mass was then held during the last day of training, everyone asking for blessing and guidance from the one above.

PHOTO SESSION
The photojournalism contest was comprised of two sets of contests, one for the photo session and the other for the photo layout. This year's regional photo session was held at Rizal Park where pupils were asked to take shots of anything they deem to appeal to the heart and also the eyes.

In the end we didn't win (though overall Manila was at second place), but the experience... yeah, it was all worth it. It was such a hype to see all flags of the different cities in the Metro being waved during the opening ceremonies, and in spite of this not being a first for the school (the first MMYWCC qualifier of MPES was Job, year 2012, for Editorial Cartooning (or so I remember), followed by Georjie, year 2013, for Pagsulat ng Editoryal (she won 6th); it was a first for all of us... and the experience was super.

Thus, we hope (and aim) to be a part of something as big as this, or even bigger than this, next year.

Congrats Team Manila! Kudos kids!
