After being in an accident several years back, Tae Gong Shil acquired the ability to see ghosts—an inconvenience that led her to being branded as weird and crazy. Enter Joo Joong Won, a powerful CEO who has a traumatic past that keeps on haunting him. Through a chance encounter, Gong Shil meets Joong Won and finds out that touching him makes ghosts disappear; leading them to the most hilarious skinship fest of their lives.
Penned by the Hong Sister's, The Master's Sun is a 17-episode romantic comedy I never really expected anything from. In true fangirl fashion I only picked this show up as I was backtracking Seo In Guk in all his previous works; but lo and behold... The Master's Sun got quite addicting at some point I just couldn't bring myself to put it down.

1) Gong Hyo Jin. Oh how I love this girl. I never expected to like Gong Hyo Jin this much — I did not know her nor have I seen anything she's been in prior to this. But man, this girl was charming! Her comedic timing is impeccable and I absolutely love how she put Tae Gong Shil's character into different shades of life. Simply put, Gong Hyo Jin became the reason why I kept on watching The Master's Sun next to Seo In Guk!
2) Chemistry. Gong Hyo-Jin and So Ji-sub have undeniable chemistry! I never really liked-liked So Ji-sub, probably because the guy have always been broody in previous shows I started to believe he was broody in real life too. Lol. However, him playing opposite Gong Hyo Jin redefined the image I've always had about him, more so because of how adorable he looked whenever he was with his leading lady. It was always an electric moment when both of them are on-screen. Not to mention the skinship in this show was shoot-to-the-sky fantastic!
3) Comedy. I never really expected comedy to be good for this drama basically because it had ghosts lingering in the backdrop. To my surprise, The Master's Sun turned out to be extremely funny rather than scary. Tae Gong Shil's antics are among those that added up to the show's excellent comedic factor, such as this:
4) Masculine Seo In Guk. Being cast as a bodyguard, we get to see Seo In Guk do all sorts of kick throughout the show. These are the types of scenes that I absolutely love—not just because he makes me swoon through the roof, but also because it leaves room for hope that he'd do action dramas soon, something a la Ji Chang Wook. Yes baby, I like me some badass namja. Rawr.
5) Non-Scary Ghosts. I ain't a fan of ghostly dramas. I mostly stay away from anything horror because it tends to stay in my head for far too long. That being said, I appreciate how the ghosts in The Master's Sun were used as a storytelling device rather than something to scare people off. The subplots the show had about Tae Gong Shil resolving issues for the ghosts was among the things I loved about The Master's Sun. Here's a favorite:

1) Hee Joo/Ha Na Arc. We start off the show with Joong Won's kidnapping issues and Hee Joo's stolen necklace. We see the show build this mystery up little by little as it progressed, only to fall flat as the drama neared its end. And that, my friends, was the biggest letdown of the show for me. Like so:

Either way, The Master's Sun is an enjoyable watch that manages to blend horror, romance, comedy and drama in a fresh and unique style. It is one good show that teaches us to start running to fear instead of running from it, because courage, after all, is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it.
